Plan Management
Plan management is a way to manage the money in your NDIS plan. A plan manager handles your invoices, keeps your budget on track, and gives you more flexibility in choosing providers.
NDIA-Managed (Agency)
You can only use providers who are registered with the NDIS. This limits your choices.
Plan-Managed
You can use both registered and unregistered providers — giving you more flexibility and control.
What is Plan Management?
Plan management is one of the four ways you can manage your NDIS funding. It means you have a registered plan manager — like a bookkeeper — who handles the financial side of your plan on your behalf.
Your plan manager pays your providers, keeps records, tracks your budgets, and sends you monthly statements. They are NDIS-funded, so using a plan manager doesn't cost you anything extra.
What Does a Good Plan Manager Do?
- Processes your invoices quickly — usually within 1–3 business days
- Sends you regular updates on your spending and balances
- Communicates clearly and responds to questions in a timely way
- Helps you understand what you can and can’t claim
- Works with you — not against you — to stay in control of your plan
- Does not pressure you to use particular providers
How Do I Choose a Plan Manager?
Here are some questions to ask when comparing plan managers:
- How quickly do you pay invoices?
- How will I track my spending? (e.g. online portal, monthly emails)
- Will I have a single point of contact?
- Can I use unregistered providers? (Plan-managed participants usually can!)
You can choose any registered plan manager across Australia — you don’t need to pick someone local. Look for someone who communicates well, explains things clearly, and treats you with respect.
Who Can Use Plan Management?
Anyone with "Improved Life Choices" funding in their NDIS plan can access plan management. If it’s not included, you can request it at your next plan meeting.
