Success story
One story that comes to mind is a client that came to us for respite, he had not been to Darwin for some 20 odd years and arrived with pretty much the clothes on his back and not much else. In the two weeks he got to see family, buy clothes, toiletries, especially a pair of red sports shoes that he loved. He went out every day, shopping fish feeding, museum, watching sunsets, markets, everyday new set of clothes, fish and chips on the foreshore. We had a beautiful cake for his 50th birthday and ate burgers down Night cliff, and he would tell us his stories of long ago. He got to see his children that he had seen for a long time. When he left, we presented him with a photo album of his time, and he said he would show all his family and friends. He said thank you to us for showing him respect he would always remember this time, some months later he passed. His family rang us and said he that he was so happy on returning to community and that they would bury him with his red shoes and photo album. Now that is what making a difference is all about.
